Hampton sits on the far side of Bushy Park from us, which makes TW12 one of the easiest places for us to reach. The gardens here tend to be a little larger than in Teddington: 1930s semis along the roads off Uxbridge Road and Hanworth Road, older houses near the river and Hampton Court, and long, narrow plots in Hampton Hill that run to a lawn, a hedge and a shed at the bottom.
That mix suits a fixed monthly plan. A larger lawn wants regular mowing at a height that copes with the drier, more gravelly soil this side of the park; the privet and laurel hedges that line so many Hampton gardens need cutting at the right time, with a check for nesting birds between March and August.
